STUDIO MANAGER

 

We are looking for a dynamic, organised and passionate Studio Manager to work alongside the artist in a fast paced studio, managing the team and studio work flows.

 

 

Demand for Lauren Baker’s artwork has substantially increased in recent years, to include large scale public realm and private art commissions. The Studio Manager is a new role charged with overall responsibility for the smooth running of the artist’s studio. We require a commercially minded, strong leader with excellent project and financial management skills. The ideal individual will be light hearted, passionate, positive and action-oriented, with an eagle eye for detail, as well as having a critical and analytical mind and being very thorough. Flexibility, sensitivity and experience working with artists in a creative environment is required. 

 

 

Responsibility:

 

The Studio Manager will manage; people, fabrication, resources, stock, clients and marketing. In detail this will include; 

 

      • Reporting directly to Lauren Baker
      • Working closely with the artist on the development, production and delivery of new and potential artworks
      • Working with the artist to manage and develop new income streams
      • Managing a team of 6 p/t staff, with lead responsibility for recruitment and development of the team
      • Liaising with external contractors including, fabricators, framers, and other third parties ensuring strict timetables and quality is being adhered to
      • Supporting the artist with research and development into future projects
      • Managing all online sales and ensuring the smooth operation of the direct client sales process
      • Managing the sales team, and personally managing emails / calls when needed, ensuring all client communications are dealt with expediently to ensure high levels of client satisfaction
      • Implementation of CRM system
      • Lead on management of ArtLogic database including all data inputs and data management, and project management systems
      • Liaising with the galleries that work with the Artist, developing strong relationships, and ensuring consignments are organise with efficiency and the Correct stock is maintained and replenished at the representative galleries
      • Represent the artist, advocacy at key events
      • Managing and overseeing shows of the artists’ work including art work hangs and installations, and photoshoots
      • Manage and control stock including sculpture, abstracts, prints etc
      • Manage sales, invoicing and planning annual and monthly budgets
      • Manage and oversee all client installations, including delivery and install
      • Work closely with the artist on marketing, social media and organising photoshoots
      • Curation of artwork in the studio
      • Strategic planning and execution of art launches
      • Inspire and motivate the team to ensure the smooth running of the studio day to day.

 

 

 Essential Skills & QualificationsThe individual will possess; 

 

      • An understanding of working with artists and other creatives to commission and produce new work
      • A proven leader, who can inspire and lead a growing team
      • Communicates well at all levels and can influence a variety of stakeholders effectively
      • Experience in taking financial responsibility including setting, negotiating and monitoring large budgets
      • The ability to manage a large workload within a fast paced environment, identify priorities and delegate
      • Strong diplomacy and negotiation skills, proven experience of negotiating complex terms with artists, partners and other stakeholders
      • Bags of enthusiasm, confidence, a positive ‘can-do’ attitude and work well within an artistic environment
      • Excellent attention to detail ensuring that the workflow of the studio is maintained at a very high standard
      • Thrives under pressure, able to think on their feet and go above and beyond to meet tight deadlines required by client demands
      • Excellent communication skills that ensures clients maintain confidence in dealing with the studio
      • Professionalism and commitment to the artist’s philosophy and image. 

 

 

The individual will have as a minimum; 

 

      • Managerial experience, with minimum of 2 years experience leading teams within a gallery or artist studio
      • Project and contract management experience
      • Excellent management skills – able to meet tight and demanding deadlines
      • Able to communicate at different levels – important collectors, galleries, studio runner 

 

 

Desirable skills;

 

      • Experience with photoshop/ Cad/ Sketch up
      • Proficiency in Microsoft Office program
      • A commitment to championing diversity at every level of the organisation with a knowledge of a diverse range of cultures and a proven ability to work with people from a wide variety of backgrounds
      • Enthusiasm for training, mentoring and support of emerging talent
      • Working knowledge of rights, IP, broadcast issues  

 

 

What we're offering to: 

 

      • Salary: Competitive salary, depending on industry and management experience. 
      • Hours: 38 Hours a week mainly in the studio but some flexibility for WFH. 
      • Probation period: 3 months.
