Lauren Baker is currently showing a collection of four works at The Hari, 20 Chesham Place, London SW1X 8HQ, in collaboration with Cramer St Gallery. Spanning two distinct bodies of practice, the exhibition brings together her immersive thread and neon work with the mesmerising handcrafted mosaics of her celebrated Transition series.

Astral Emanations Light (2024) is a luminous mixed-media work combining ink, wool and silk thread on fine art canvas with a glowing white neon element. Drawing on the ancient tradition of scarification — ritual markings used in ceremonies of rites of passage — Baker stitches intricate patterns into a portal-like form. Subtle halos of colour radiate outward from a blank centre, evoking the journey toward inner wisdom and higher states of consciousness. The work invites the viewer to follow the light inward.

The remaining three pieces belong to Baker's Transition collection — a series of painstakingly assembled mosaic works constructed from everyday objects that individually carry an edge of danger: matches, thorns, needles, and pins. Arranged into flowing, organic compositions, these materials are transformed into something compelling and tactile, subverting their original nature entirely. Each title traces a stage in an evolving inner journey.

The Remains of the Beginning (2015) is composed of matches and acrylic paint on an acrylic sheet, the remnants of something once lit now rearranged into quiet beauty. The End of the End (2015) works in thorns and metal, its sharp materials coaxed into sinuous forms that invite rather than repel. Our Journey in the Dream (2015) continues this thread in metal and wood, mapping a passage through something vast and intangible.
Together, these works reflect Baker's sustained interest in transformation — of materials, of meaning, and of the self.
